Mary Beth Yount, Ph.D.

Mary Beth Yount, Ph.D., became the Editor of the Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling (JPC&C) on January 1, 2023, coupling that with the role of Social Media Manager, which she has held for several years. She continues to develop new print and online publishing opportunities and partnerships consistent with JPCP Inc’s mission.

Dr. Yount is a professor of theological studies at Neumann University in Philadelphia where she teaches graduate courses on research methods and evaluation, pastoral identity development, ethics, social and ethical responsibility, and strategic planning and systems thinking. She also teaches a wide variety of religious literacy and theology courses, has previously directed a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with Spiritual and Pastoral Integration, and consulted regarding spiritual/religious integration and alignment for programs accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Author of more than thirty-five published articles, book chapters, and reviews, several of which were recipients of professional association awards, she has also chaired/administered over 15 dissertations that involved the production of original research in Pastoral Counseling, Counselor Supervision, Clinical Counseling, and/or Education. Dr. Yount’s speculative and pragmatic work in practices of care include teaching and applied efforts in the areas of education, pastoral identity, spiritual direction, end-of-life and other advanced decision making, pastor support, and engagement with nonprofits and advocacy organizations such as those for prison reform. A recipient of a papal honor by Pope Francis and named one of “Philadelphia’s Most Interesting People” by NBC-10, her academic and community work has been featured in hundreds of media outlets, both scholarly and popular, including TIME magazine.
